The Mayor of Kamloops raised three issues in a presentation to the B.C government’s investigation into last year’s wildfires.
Mayor Ken Christian says, the first point is to improve fire safety in and around Kamloops, next, use Kamloops as a provincial base for fire suppression, and then review what happened in the river city as thousands of evacuees flooded into town.
“We talked about the 2017 experience in terms of what that looked like for Kamloops and Prince George, who were the major places that received evacuees.”
The review, headed up by former Cabinet Minister George Abbott, will look at all aspects of the province’s response to the floods and wildfires, and is in addition to the reviews being conducted at the B.C Wildfire Service and Emergency Management B.C.
A report, with recommendations, is due April 30th.
