The B.C government has drawn general support from a well known Kamloops lawyer after unveiling its rules for the use and sale of recreational marijuana.
Private and publicly owned stores will be allowed to sell legal weed, but the outlets will require provincial licence’s and approval from local governments.
Shawn Buckley is pleased the NDP government is being proactive but he would have added other provisions.
“I would have allowed growers to sell their own product. I would also allow non government to sell online. I mean, right now we have a grey market, thriving businesses in British Columbia that are selling across the country online, and yet we are following the Alberta model where we are going to say, no only the government. Those are two things that jump out at me that I would change immediately.”
Marijuana will have to be sold in standalone stores, not alongside alcohol or tobacco.
