Thompson Rivers University has its third chancellor.
The Chief of Simpcw First Nation Nathan Matthew was appointed today to replace former Attorney General Wally Oppal who had been in the position for nearly 8 years.
“It’s just the kind of institution that we need in terms of it’s broad programming, it’s got trades, it’s got law, it’s got nurses, research, and the education department. So it really does meet the needs of the people of the Interior. And of course it has a very expansive, open learning component.”
Oppal says, its been quite a ride.
“I mean, Chancellor is really a high calling really, I look at it that way, sort of the ceremonial head of the university, you preside over all the events. And for me, it was really awesome, it really was, I enjoyed it.”
Matthew was the University’s first Executive Director of Aboriginal Education
