The Mayor of Kamloops is welcoming this week’s Throne Speech and subsequent comments from the Premier that housing will be a major focus of next week’s budget.
Ken Christian says, it is welcome news that this government is making housing a major priority.
“I want to make sure that Kamloops gets its fair share of the support that is needed to put affordable housing in place in Kamloops. So far, we have seen $14.5 million a few weeks ago from Minister Robinson. We want to have a number of shelf ready projects so that we can match up with the areas where there may be grants available.”
Christian says, he is optimistic once budget details are out next week that announcements will follow here in Kamloops on other rental housing options in the city.
He says, creating zoning for rental stock is also an initiative not without precedent noting similar rules exist for daycares and group homes.
