Kamloops marijuana dispensary owners are probably not terribly happy with city hall.
Kamloops council is being asked today to approve a recommendation from staff the city not allow currently illegal dispensaries to use temporary use permits to make the transition to a legal operation.
City Planning and Development Manager Rod Martin received a legal opinion that it is better to wait until the Trudeau government actually legalizes cannabis later this year.
“The time and resources that would be required we feel would be better invested in preparation of the comprehensive bylaw regime to deal with them once they are legalized so we can get them in the proper locations. It is not that clear whether we would be accepting more liability and have insurance coverage problems.”
Due to the delay in the senate vote, pot won’t be legalized until late summer or early fall.
