Kamloops Pride is gearing up for a big year, with the date for the annual event now put in place.
President, Kirstin McLaughlin says, they’re hoping this year’s parade, set for August 26th, will have a bigger and better turnout.
“We had a lot of interest last year, with over 1,000 individuals, businesses, unions, community organizations marching, and over 1,000 people in the streets as well.”
McLaughlin says, they’ve done outreach to surrounding communities as well, which should bring in out of town participants.
“This year, we’ll be looking to really expand the parade, and to hopefully have more entertainment down in Riverside Park to sort of keep people before and after the parade itself.”
While Thompson Rivers University has had a Pride Parade for a number of years now, this will be just the 2nd parade held in downtown Kamloops.
