Kamloops Council is supporting an effort from the Thompson River University Students Union.
TRUSU was looking for backing for a full re-evaluation of the TRU funding formula by the B.C government.
Councillor Dennis Walsh thought it was a no brainer.
“TRU is obviously a major major stakeholder in our community. This report is just asking us to support a full re-evaluation of the funding formula. I don’t believe its that controversial. I mean its what you do when you see that one facility is getting x number of dollars, and one is getting less.”
TRUSU claims TRU has been under funded by $80 million compared to the average institution in B.C over the last five years, which means inadequate funding bringing about reduced student services, larger classes, and higher fees.
