The leader of the BC Green Party sees a silver lining in the ongoing pipeline battle between the Horgan and Notley governments.
Speaking on Inside #bcpoli on NL Andrew Weaver says Premier Rachel Notley’s latest threat to turn off the western flow of oil and gas is just political bluster.
“She has an election coming up in a year and she is basically playing politics as far as I can tell with Jason Kenney there in an election campaign. The reality is that nobody wins when we start behaving this way.”
Weaver says politics aside this issue is about shipping raw bitumen something he says needs to come to an end.
“It might provide the impetus to build a refinery in British Columbia. Certainly it will provide the impetus for us to electrify our vehicular sector as is happening already in Victoria, to a lesser extent elsewhere.”
He says right now people need oil, gas, and jet fuel and it is time to have discussion about refining bitumen here perhaps with a refinery in an area like Prince George.
