The Thompson Nicola Regional District has officially adopted a dry cabins proposal to help replace those lost in last summer’s historic wildfire season.
TNRD chair John Ranta says the dry cabins, cabins without sewer or running water systems, will help replace cabins that could not be rebuilt under today’s rules.
“It was debated quite considerably by the board but ultimately it passed. I think the staff will move ahead with that initiative. It is strictly for an area of Loon Lake that is not accessible except by water.”
As for what is next.
“It is going to be referred to the Loon Lake property owners to see if it meets their needs.”
The Loon and Pressy Lake areas were the hardest hit by wildfires with almost 80 homes or cabins lost.
