After seeing what the province tabled in a new LNG framework the leader of the BC Liberals says the NDP have some explaining to do.
Andrew Wilkinson says the NDP have essentially pulled a U-turn on LNG albeit an ironic one..
“The rest of British Columbians are paying more tax and the industry that the NDP have criticized for so long are paying less tax.”
Wilkinson was asked with tepid BC Greens support at the moment for any LNG legislation that might be tabled this fall would his party support it or not.
“We have to see the details of what the NDP are proposing. We support this industry in principle. We have been big fans of getting British Columbia’s natural gas into world markets. We have got to make sure it is a good deal for British Columbians.”
The NDP LNG framework offers potential proponents some PST relief, and carbon tax exemptions, while doing away with the LNG income tax.
