Despite concerns from homeowners, Kamloops Council voted in favour of an indigenous youth and elders affordable housing project at 975 Singh street.
Chambers were overflowing for the public hearing as council gave the First Nations organization, Lii Michif Otipemisiwak, permission to increase the number of units from 15 to 31.
“Council voted unanimously in favour of this proposal, but it was going in there with an open mind.”
Speaking on the Jim Harrison Show today, Kamloops Mayor Ken Christian understands the potential problems.
“Lots of issues from the neighbourhood about concerns in Brocklehurst. Everything from sidewalks, to parking, to traffic, to crime, those kinds of things. And a lot of really passionate commentary from people who serve the needs of particularly, aging out kids, and how that works.”
Other matters include traffic, parking, and crime.
