There was one clear message contained in a report on the residential recovery from last summers terrible fire season in the Thompson Nicola Regional District.
“The principle deficiency in the recovery system in my opinion, is there still isn’t sufficient financials resources available to help people with construction and reconstruction of their homes.”
Author Bob Finely says people who lost their homes desperately need help in rebuilding since many didn’t have insurance.
“90 per cent of those residents who responded to our needs and gap survey, all had secondary seasonal residences. In terms of the support network, they fall at the bottom of the support network queue.”
231 homes, including outbuildings were destroyed.
