The B.C. Wildfire service is preparing for the upcoming season.
Chief Fire Information Officer Kevin Skrepnek says the first of the air tanker fleet will start arriving this month.
“First eight for a group that will be going into Williams Lake of course if there is a need we can bring those aircraft on a lot sooner if need be. That will of course just be based on the kind of weather we are seeing out there. We expect all of our eight air different tanker groups which is a total of 24 aircraft, they will all be in place by June. Those start dates are staggered quite a bit.”
Skrepnek says the air tanker fleet is designed to be nimble and able to respond anywhere in the province as quickly as possible.
He says Kamloops is usually home base for two air tanker groups.
