The Fraser Basin Council wants to know how many orphan or stand alone dikes are in B.C are in danger of possible collapse.
There are one hundred dams in B.C that don’t fall under the jurisdiction of any governmental authority, including four alone within the city of Kamloops boundaries.
The Senior Manager Steve Litke wants to determine the failure risk of each dam.
“Many vulnerabilities behind these structures about whether the homes farms or businesses or infrastructure and the hope is that we will have a bit of a plan to make some improvements and where possible identify local authorities that would take on the management responsibility.”
Litke says, this project is to identify higher risk situations and prepare emergency responses.
