The reaction has been swift and positive to news the Teck Resources is looking at extending the life of the Highland Valley Copper Mine.
The company says it will take two years before it decides if there is enough ore to increase the mines life to 2040.
The Executive Director of Venture Kamloops Jim Anderson says, the giant mine is an economic driver for the entire region with more than one thousand well paying jobs.
“There is no denying that the impact of the local economy is substantial. Notwithstanding the fact the the actual operation isn’t within city limit, the spin off from the payroll is a huge economic factor for sure.”
The Chief Administrative Officer for Logan Lake Randy Lambright.
“I mean after all they are an integral part of the community not only from taxation contribution perspective but also from being a partner in building and supporting Logan Lake. I think the district is a big supporter of this major industry.”
Lambright is heartened by the news saying it would be good for everyone in the region.
