With the unofficial start to the fire season May 15th, the B.C Wildfire Service is ramping up its action plan.
Chief Information Officer Kevin Skrepnek says, firefighters and equipment are now being moved into place.
“Certainly between now and the end of May we are only going to increase in terms of capacity, so we will have all of our firefighters in place by the end of May. Our air tanker groups will be largely in place. Other aircraft pre-positioned where we are going to need them. Of course fire season in BC can take a few different shapes and forms. As we have seen particularly in the southern part of the province over the last few weeks grass fires have been a big concern.”
Skrepnek says, there will be more than 1000 BC firefighters deployed, while the province has mutual aid agreements with several other provinces.
