The price of a steak at your favourite restaurant in B.C is about to go up.
The General Manager of the B.C Cattlemen’s Association, Kevin Boon says, you can thank the rising price of gasoline.
“Getting that animal to the packing plant, so that they can cut it into steaks, getting that streak to the grocery store has probably increased by 15 to 20 per cent in transportation costs.”
As for prices at the restaurant.
“I don’t see it being a huge percentage because its one aspect. It wouldn’t be out of line to probably see five per cent.”
Boon says, the cost of transportation is a bigger part of the ranchers overall cost of operations.
