As Victoria Day weekend wraps up, so does B.C Boating Week.
Executive Director of Boating B.C Lisa Geddes says for those new to boating, getting a license is fairly easy, with the certification available online.
“And in fact, if you’re going to rent a boat, a smaller power boat, or a kayak, or a stand-up paddle board, you don’t have to have your P.C.O.C first. Transport Canada has rental agencies set up so that they can train people on the spot to know what they need to know to go out for an afternoon and get a little taste of what its like to be out on the water.”
Geddes adds, there are volunteer checks on the water and just like on land, if you don’t have a license, you could end up with a ticket.
“Make sure that you do have the right training, and just be prepared for whatever it is that you’re going out to do, but more than anything, have a good time.”
