Cautious optimism as Kamloops awaits the worst of this year’s flood threat.
With the North and South Thompson Rivers expected to peak over the next two weeks, Utility Services Manager Greg Wightman says, river levels at the Overlanders Bridge actually dropped five centimetres over the long weekend.
What’s the next step?
“We’ve got the boat launches open at this point. We have been kind of right on the cusp of potentially considering that but that’s something we will be looking at whether those are going to remain open heading into next weekend or not.”
Wightman says, the water must jump another 50 centimetres before any further action is taken.
“We are keeping a real close eye on what that is going to look like and how high that is going to go. Probably a little bit early at this point to say exactly how high.”
Wightman stresses all of this is speculation, as Mother Nature will have the final word.
