Despite two of his MLAs attending a pro-life rally the leader of the BC Liberals says the party’s policy on abortion will not be changing.
Andrew Wilkinson says the Liberals are a big tent party and while two MLAs attended the rally, the remaining 40 did not.
Wilkinson says he does not foresee any change in the party’s policy on abortion adding “the way things are, are the way things should be.”
“We tell our folks if they want to go and support particular causes let us know in advance. Give us the courtesy of that and follow your conscience. But remember we are a big tent you don’t bring your personal ideas back in here and bang the drum. You are allowed to live your personal principles and be true to your constituents but when it comes to the party’s position we make that as a team not as individuals.”
Wilkinson also dismissed the idea of sentencing the two MLAs to the backbenches for attending the rally.
