The President of the BCTF is welcoming a ministry of education move to assign a special advisor to the troubled Cariboo Chilcotin School District.
“What has been carrying on in that school district cannot continue.”
Barely a week after a report found the district had a toxic work environment driving staff morale rock bottom the ministry has assigned Mike McKay to oversee things.
Glen Hansman applauds the move but adds if significant change doesn’t happen soon then maybe it might be time to fire the school board.
“There needs to be some things done and we weren’t particularly impressed with the school district’s response at the end of last week when Dianne Turner’s report came out. I was very happy to find out Minister Rob Fleming had authorized a special advisor to go in. It is not the final lever that could be pulled in the situation.”
The report recommended a complete review of the district’s governance and policies.
It came after a no-confidence vote in the school board and accusations of financial impropriety.
