Highways lines are a major irritant for a Thompson Nicola Regional District Director, in fact it could be matter of life and death.
Ken Gillis of Pritchard was able to convince the board to submit a resolution to the annual meeting of the Union of BC Municipalities convention, asking the B.C government use a more durable paint or a second coat be applied to the lines.
Gillis says, the previous government stopped using lead based paint to reduce the impact on the environment.
“The lead based paint was probably a danger perhaps to animals. We are going to see more dead people than we ever saw dead animals from eating lead based paint I can promise you that. Something has to be done and they have to develop a better system to keep the lines painted on the road, its just that simple. Yes, we are going to take it to the UBCM and yes, I am going to request a meeting with the minister.”
The convention will be held in September.
