This morning Kamloops residents will be rallying at the 12th annual Sun Life Walk to Cure Diabetes for JDRF.
JDRF Chair Janice Otremba says, the walk aims to raise money for type 1 diabetes research and treatments.
She says in Kamloops, there’s over 200 families impacted by Type 1.
She adds, Type 1 is an autoimmune disease, so insulin is not a cure, and costs to manage the disease can be high.
“And the reason that we do it here, is because families pay as little as 500 dollars a month out of pocket after their benefits, and some families are paying upwards of 2000 dollars a month to manage the disease. And that’s for the test strips and all of the different supplies and things that go with that.”
Today’s free event will be from 9-11 a.m at the B.C Wildlife Park.
