Bridging the gap, there’s renewed talk in Kamloops about an overpass across the Summit Connector.
The issue was raised by Councillor Donovan Cavers who is worried about what could happen if something isn’t done about TRU students crossing the connector at the corner of McGill and Summit.
Cavers comments come after an international student attending college in Prince George was struck and killed by a vehicle on Highway 97 adjacent to the college campus.
Cavers hopes it doesn’t happen here.
“It was a very similar type situation, as we have in our own community.”
Development Services Director Marvin Kwiatkowski says he’s meeting with Thompson Rivers University officials to talk about an overpass.
“There has been discussions about potentially ramping up the overpass project funding, is of course an issue, but we’re going to look at all options and see what we can bring forward.”
Kwiatkowski is aware of the potential for someone to be struck straddling the connector to the university.
