A Kamloops lawyer has been appointed as a provincial court judge.
The province says Raymond Phillips fills a vacancy in the Kamloops Law Courts.
He was born in Kamloops and is a member of the Lytton First Nation – Nlaka’pamux.
Phillips graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from UBC in 1993 and was called to the bar in 1994.
Since 2002, he has been a general practitioner, dealing with several legal issues including criminal law, real estate, contract, and settlements.
Phillips also articled with the federal Department of Justice before joining both the St’at’imc and Nlaka’pamux Legal Services Society as a staff lawyer.
He is now one of three community trustees managing the Nlaka’pamux Legacy Trust, and also was duty counsel for the Chnúkcwentn First Nations Court since it opened in 2017.
Phillips was appointed Queen’s counsel in 2015.
