UPDATE 2:30 p.m. – The City of Kamloops says a fire at Emterra Environmental in Valleyview is currently being held.
It says while some crews and equipment are being demobilized, there will be some crews still on scene for clean up work.
Crews were called around 11:20 a.m. today to the facility on Kelly Douglas Road to a fire in cardboard bales outside the facility which also spread to the grass nearby.
A thick plume of black smoke was visible across parts of Kamloops, while flames could be seen near the vicinity of the structure. As of about 12:50 p.m., there was a skiff of white smoke seen coming from the facility.
The City also says train traffic is moving normally through the area.
No word on what caused the fire just yet but we’ll have more details when its available.
