-- Shaun Marcum struck out nine over seven innings and the Blue Jays went deep four times in Toronto's 8-5 win over Texas. Vernon Wells had two solo shots for Jays, while Adam Lind and John Buck also homered.
-- Ronny Cedeno's triple keyed a five-run seventh as last-place Pittsburgh beat slumping Atlanta 5-nothing. The Braves dropped into second place in the NL East, a half game behind Philadelphia, which beat Florida 8-7.
-- Dillon Gee made quite an impression in his major-league debut. The rookie hurler took a no-hitter into the sixth as the New York Mets beat Washington 4-1. Willie Harris broke up the no-no with a leadoff homer in the sixth.
-- Kim Clijsters and Venus Williams are into the semifinals at the US Open. Clijsters beat Sam Stosur 6-4, 5-7, 6-3, while Williams downed Francesca Schiavone in straight sets. The pair will meet in the semifinals.
-- Yahoo! Sports is reporting that 2005 Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush is expected to be stripped of the award by the end of the month The former Southern Cal running back would become the first player in the 75-year history of the award to have the trophy taken away.
-- Canada scored twice in the first half to beat Honduras 2-1 in a soccer friendly in Montreal. Josh Simpson and Kevin McKenna had the goals for Canada in a match that was delayed by weather in the 83rd minute. Canada lost over the weekend to Peru in another friendly.
