Avalanche Canada is issuing a Special Public Warning for recreational backcountry users, in effect immediately until the end of the day Monday, February 12.
Forecaster Mark Bender says, the warning is for the Interior ranges in BC.
“In particular, if you’re in the Kamloops area, the North Columbia and the South Columbia region is rated at ‘high’ at all elevations at the moment.”
Bender says the weather is supposed to clear up a bit by the weekend, so they are reminding people heading out of the present danger.
“Sporadic, but possibly very large natural avalanches, associated with warming and solar radiation, and a high probability of human triggered avalanches could likely come as a surprise to many people. So that’s why we would’ve issued the warning at the moment.”
The warning applies to the following regions: Lizard Range & Flathead, South Rockies, Purcells, Kootenay Boundary, South & North Columbia, Cariboo, and North Rockies.
