The Canada West Ski Association is lamenting the the provincial government’s moving of the Family Day weekend in BC to the third week in February.
“It is a lost opportunity on that front but we understood it was a possibility.”
Association President Christopher Nicolson says ski resorts have spent considerable effort building on having the Family Day weekend followed by Presidents Day long weekend in the US.
He says they are going to lose revenue.
“From a ski industry perspective in British Columbia there is an estimate of about $10 million that was directly attributable to the alignment of the incremental Family Day, or the Family Day on the second Monday of February. That is a lost opportunity but there will be new opportunities going forward so that is what we will focus on.”
The change will be official as of next year with the province saying it better aligns the holiday weekend here with Family Day weekends across the country.
