Sunshine will be cooking the mountain snow packs this weekend.
Avalanche Canada Forecaster, Penny Goddard says, they’re expecting the warmer weather to cause the avalanche danger to rise.
“Its quite common when you have a big change in the snowpack to have the snow shed some of its surface layers.”
Goddard says, the snowfall this winter has been a bit above average.
“This weekend I’d say stay away from the slopes that are being cooked by the sun. And be really cautious of large cornices that are overhanging slopes, those are likely to be weakened by the sun. And that’s the kind of thing, that if it falls on the slope, could trigger a surprisingly large avalanche.”
