As ther price at the pump continues to soar the BC Liberals MLA for Kamloops North wants the province to put the brakes on another increase to the carbon tax.
Peter Milobar says hiking the carbon tax will add to already sky high gas prices increasing the price at the pump by anywhere from seven to fourteen bucks a fill up.
Milobar says with the revenue neutral requirement removed from the tax by the province it amounts to just another cash grab.
“I think the problem right now is that we have an increase in carbon tax coming. It is not going to be revenue neutral any longer. And it is going to increase the price of gas for everybody at the pump. It is going to increase your natural gas costs at your home. It is going to increase costs to industry and there is still no plan on where those extra revenues are going to go. There is no industry support and there is no meaningful supports to households either.”
The provincial government has committed to increasing the carbon tax by five-dollars a tonne for each of the next four years.
