The Mayor of Kamloops calls it ‘good news’, not ‘great news’ that WestJet is adding a third daily flight to Calgary.
“What we are really looking for is the return of that Kamloops – Edmonton flight.”
Ken Christian, who also serves as President of the Airport Society says, that flight was a perfect fit for the River City especially for the workers who live here, and work in Wildrose Country.
“There are an awful lot of people who work in northern Alberta that live in Kamloops, so that commute for them is through Calgary and its much longer and more expensive. So the ability to commute directly to Kamloops, and Kamloops has the workforce to provide expertise into northern Alberta and I would like to see that continue.”
WestJet cancelled its direct daily flights to Edmonton from Kamloops due to the downturn in the energy sector.
