A Kamloops lawyer confirms that city licensing inspectors have visited several so called, compassion clubs, those dispensing marijuana without a business license, encouraging them to shut their doors.
Shawn Buckley says, business license inspectors began showing up at the outlets yesterday, under the premise of conducting a business licence inspection.
“But the city inspectors will know that there are no business licenses because the city refuses to grant people temporary ones to compassion clubs. And so they’re noting that there is no business license, and then they’re writing on the form that because they can’t get a business license, its strongly recommended that they shut down by the end of the month.”
Buckley says, it’s possible the city is responding to complaints, but says a number of these clubs have clients who have health issues, leaving them open to potential liability issues if they shut down and people are harmed.
