A Co-Chair of the B.C Health Care Coalition is hoping for part of the new cash from the NDP government to reduce surgical waiting lists for hip and knee surgery, 175 million over two years.
Premier John Horgan says, the strategy will see five hip and knee replacement programs implemented throughout the province.
Rick Turner of Kamloops feels some of the 75 million dollars available in the first year goes to Royal Inland Hospital, which at certain points over the last five year had the longest waits in B.C.
“I think you have hit the nail on the head waiting times here for hips and knees and so on. Many people are waiting for more than a year, and some more towards two years, and to hear that its going to be reduced to about 26 weeks, which is only six months for hip and knee replacements by this time next year, is just great news.”
Health Minister Adrian Dix says, the province is also implementing operating room efficiencies.
