Thompson Nicola Regional District directors will be paid less none and have to dish out more for income tax this year.
The 26 directors have been put on notice as have the rest of the civic politicians in Canada.
The 2017 federal budget eliminated the tax free exemption for local government elected officials.
Finance Director Doug Rae says, this means starting next year all pay will be fully taxable.
“Just means that the one third of your remuneration is no longer going to be tax free. So whatever that third works out to for that individual director then that be taxed on that and that of course will depend on the rest of their finances and what tax rate they fall into.”
