The Interior Health Authority says big strides have been made in recruiting family doctors and specialists to Kamloops.
Outgoing CEO Chris Mazurkewich says, since 2015, there have been nine new family doctors recruited to Kamloops, and a huge number of specialists.
“Within the Thompson area, we’ve recruited 24 G.P’s, and we’ve had 54 specialists at Royal Inland that have obtained privileges. That’s unprecedented in terms of the numbers of physicians we’ve recruited in that period of time.”
The reasons for the success of the program.
“Most of the specialists will be from within Canada by far. The family practice will be international, as well as from other parts of Canada.”
Mazurkewich also says the family residents studying to be G.P’s in Kamloops have remained in the River City after their education.
