The city of Kamloops is taking no chances as a new wildfire season approaches.
In about three weeks there will be a controlled burn on 16 hectares of land on the north side of Kenna Cartwright Park.
City of Kamloops Natural Resources Crew Leader Kirsten Wourms says it is an effort to avoid any big forest fires due to a build up of fuel.
“What we are doing is moving a lot of the pine needles that are down a lot of the grasses sort of clearing out that area. Most of the big trees were taken out after the pine beetle epidemic.”
The exact location will be between Ridge Trail and Lower Doug Daws mountain bike trail, just east of the pond.
