Its a changing of the guard at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops.
The institution hired Brett Fairbairn, a former Vice President from the University of Saskatchewan, to replace Alan Shaver – who is retiring at the end of August – as President.
Fairbairn says he’s looking forward to the new opportunity after teaching for nearly 30 years at U of S.
“To stand here at a podium like this feels amazing. Its humbling and exciting. Its humbling because of the trust and responsibility that Thompson Rivers University is placing in me, which I keenly feel,” Fairbairn said. “Its also exciting for the new chapter in our lives.”
TRU Board of Governors Chair Jim Thompson says Fairbairn was the perfect choice for president.
“Unflappable,” he said. “This is a guy I don’t think you see him waiver in the wind. He will do his homework. He will consult with people and he will be a strong leader.”
The 59-year-old Fairbairn signed a five year contract and will officially take over as TRU President on Dec. 1 this year.
