Taking strides in promoting the city’s inclusivity, with the number of rainbow crosswalks now up to 6
Kamloops Pride President, Kirstin McLaughlin says the two crosswalks added to the Kamloops Airport yesterday are the first outside of Thompson Rivers University in the city.
“The airport authority and the City took this on, on their own, which was absolutely fabulous. And let us know that these were their plans, and did we want to come for the unveiling. And we were very, very impressed with that, because it’s wonderful to see the work of allies in really promoting diversity and inclusion. And whether its putting up Pride flags, or whether its Pride crosswalks, that the work doesn’t always have to come right from the community itself.”
McLaughlin adds, while there aren’t plans in place as of yet for more crosswalks, the next area she would like to see have one would be in the downtown core.
