As tax time rolls around, the B.C Seniors Advocate is reminding seniors to file tax returns, even if they think they don’t make enough to file.
Isobel Mackenzie says they’re spreading the reminder to file to low income seniors who may think they don’t need to.
“Everybody needs to file a tax return, regardless of their income. And if seniors, particularly low in come seniors don’t file their tax returns, many of our programs that require verification of income, they will no longer be eligible for, and they will be charged the full rate.”
Mackenzie says they’re also concerned about seniors who are in the hospital who haven’t had time.
“Remember to think about your mum or dad, or friend or neighbours tax return.”
To file, she adds, there’s about 270 free Volunteer Income Tax Clinics throughout B.C.
