2018 Walk for Alzheimer’s getting underway in Kamloops today.
Spokesperson Sheila Minten says, events like the walk are important because Alzheimers is growing at a rapid pace in Canada.
“The donations stay within the Kamloops community. The Kamloops area stretches around 100 Mile, Cache Creek, some of those surrounding communities, as well as actually in Kamloops. And what the donations go to is support and services offered by the Alzheimer’s Society for families and people living with dementia.”
Minten says, last year, Kamloops was the top fundraiser in the province, raising 107 thousand dollars, this year, the goal is 75 thousand dollars.
She adds, those looking to participate can sign up today at the event. Registration starts at 9 a.m., and the Walk begins at 10:30 a.m at the Tournament Capital Centre indoor and outdoor tracks.
