The Thompson Nicola Regional District is paying a very high price.
The Regional District must decide where to send 80 tonnes of recyclable material, because China has refused to take the material due to contamination levels.
Environmental Services Director Jamie Vieira says, its costing the Regional District big bucks in processing fees to move those recyclables.
“We are moving it one load at a time. Our processing fees since a year ago have tripled. They were 80 dollars a tonne to process, which is the same as landfill fees and now they have tripled they are 210 dollars a tonne, if we can find a processor.”
The TNRD will join the Recycle B.C effort, September 1st.
