Fire fighters are battling another new wildfire in the Kamloops Fire Centre this one near Savona.
Fire Information Officer Brenna Ward says the blaze was spotted Monday afternoon and air tankers are already busy battling the flames.
“The BC Wildfire Service is responding to a rapidly spreading grass fire. It is on the south side of the Trans-Canada highway about 40 kilometres west of Kamloops near Savona. It is currently estimated at about 100 hectares. It seems to be burning towards the river. Grass fire and light fuels does result in very rapid spread. Because of the light fuels it is not expected to jump the river.”
Ward says it is too early to say if this fire will be a challenge to get a handle on or not.
No stuctures were under any immediate threat.
Ward says another new blaze also popped up near Oliver and while small at less than two hectares its exhibiting rank 3 fire behaviour.
