After years of no new rental housing being built in Kamloops, the city is poised for a mini boom in construction.
Development Services Director Marvin Kwiatkowski says, senior staff have been doing the math and there will be 1000 new rental units in total built over the next several years.
“Obviously we are growing. We are growing at a constant rate. Housing affordability is becoming more of a factor. You know TRU as well, they are always growing and expanding. So there is just a need. You look at the vacancy rates, they are pretty low in the last few years. So there is obviously a demand for that. Its a positive sign really, that Kamloops continues to grow.”
Kwiatkowski calls it a positive, after years when there was no rental housing stock being built.
