The Xusum Creek wildfire near Lillooet is still classified as out of control at 505 hectares in size, but the BC Wildfire Service is optimitic they’ll make major progress on it this weekend.
The weather forecast is calling for much cooler temperatures and even rain on Sunday.
BC Wildfire spokesperson Marla Catherall says overall the fire is only 35 per cent contained, but the fire activity is low, having mostly been reduced to just smoldering on the ground.
“It is inaccessible right now to our crews because of the steep slope. So we have a perimeter there that the fire will stick between and we’ll monitor and at the bottom its 100 per cent contained below Highline Road.”
Meantime the BC Wildfire Service says an area restriction around Allie Lake has been lifted.
The fire northwest of Kamloops is now fully contained, but the service cautions it is still considered an active worksite with a number of hazards such as burned and weakened trees that could fall.
Anyone venturing into the area is urged to exercise extreme caution.
