Fire activity across the province is picking up again as temperatures soar.
In the last 24 hours there have been four new wildfire starts including blazes near Oliver in the Interior and near Harrison Lake on the coast.
Chief Provincial Fire Information Officer Kevin Skrepnek says campfires, a fire a half meter by half meter, are not a concern…yet.
“Of course the size is one issue but really of greater concern for us is the fact that it is attended. Having that fire unattended for any period of time is a no-no. If we see those winds pick up sparks from that fire could spread and all of sudden we have a situation on our hands.”
There are currently no campfire bans in the province, although there are some open fire restrictions for most of the province.
