Kamloops had not one but two close calls last night after a gas station in Cherry Creek erupted into flames early this morning.
Sgt. Brandon Buliziuk says officers arrived shortly after midnight to find the gas station building fully engulfed.
Buliziuk says due to the gas and propane tanks on site a nearby trailer park was evacuated and the Trans-Canada closed.
But the fire was soon under control and about 40 evacuees are now allowed to return home.
“Definitely a situation that could have gone a lot worse than it did. Fortunately some things did go in our favour the weather being one of them. Not being any wind at the time and during the time the structure was burning allowed it to burn straight up not interface with any other structures or wild land.”
The Trans-Canada is now single lane alternating through the area.
The fire is also under investigation.
