The latest numbers in the overdose crisis are out 109 people died of an illicit drug overdose last month.
However BC Coroners Service spokesperson Andy Watson says there is a silver lining with a 12% decrease in deaths from June and a 23% decrease from May of last year.
In Kamloops there was a single overdose death last month.
“Looking specifically at Kamloops we are about on track for what we saw from 2017. Through the first five months of 2018 we have seen 18 suspected illicit drug overdose deaths. Comparing that with all of 2017 when we saw 39. So relatively the same pace and rate that we saw in 2017.”
That said most deaths are still people using at home alone with 60-percent of last month’s overdose deaths in private residences.
And almost all deaths continue to be men.
