Though winter is still a ways off, a Kamloops councillor’s request to have research done into how best to deal with leftover roadside snow piles has been turned down.
Councillor Arjun Singh says he wants to understand what kind of costs would be involved to remove the so-called windrows- leftover snow from city plows.
Opposed was Councillor Tina Lange, who says its simply too expensive.
“I don’t want staff to go away and do this big report, which will be very expensive for them to do, to decide on the cost. And its not just the cost of staff, but its buying new equipment, its hiring new staff. It would be a huge thing for them to undertake, and at the end of the day, I believe that we would all turn it down because we can’t afford the impact on taxes.”
Council eventually voted against further action being taken.
