It looks like a fair number of high school graduates are choosing to stay local when they move on to university.
School Board Chair Meghan Wade says almost half of school district 73 graduates, responding to a survey, said they would be attending Thompson Rivers University.
About 65-percent of graduates completed the survey.
“And of that 65%, 43% are going to TRU. Smaller numbers are going to other universities in the province and then even smaller are going outside. A lot of the answers were I am going to go to TRU and work part-time, which is the standard life of an university student. Some indicate that they are going on to employment then there is always that group that is just going to travel.”
Wade says the district is also leading the province in graduating First Nations students with an 85-percent graduation rate.
